Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Kenn Kasparek began his professional career in 2008. He was originally taken by the Chicago Cubs in the 41st round of the 2004 amateur draft (one pick after pitcher Steve Edlefsen), but opted not to sign. He was then taken in the 34th round of the 2007 amateur draft by the Washington Nationals (a few picks ahead of utility player Tyler Ladendorf), but again, he did not sign. He did ink a contract after being selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 12th round of the 2008 amateur draft (a few picks ahead of first baseman Matt Clark).

His first pro campaign, split between the the Pulaski Mariners and Everett AquaSox, Kasparek struck out 65 batters in 52 innings. The next year, he went 10-6 with a 2.41 ERA in 26 starts for the Clinton LumberKings. He remained in the Mariners system through 2011, being released in March 2012. After playing briefly in independent baseball, he latched on with the Pittsburgh Pirates system, with whom he played through 2014. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2014, going 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA in five relief appearances for the Indianapolis Indians; he was 1-1 with 13 saves and a 2.55 mark overall. He moved to the Baltimore Orioles system for 2015.

He was a Mid-Season All-Star in 2010, 2011 and 2014.

Kasparek's grandfather Al Kasparek pitched in the minors in 1946-1947. His brother, Andrew Kasparek, played in the minors in 2004 and 2005.
