Biographical Information[edit]
Kengo Horiuchi has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Horiuchi represented Japan in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup, hitting .438/.500/.688 for the Silver Medalists. His two triples were one shy of leader Luis Robert. He handled 50 chances error-free and threw out all three runners who tried to steal on him. Only Arthur Oliveira and Lukáš Trunkát threw out more runners. He was named the All-Star catcher.
The Rakuten Golden Eagles selected him in the 4th round of the 2015 NPB draft, and he was placed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first two seasons. Horiuchi hit .174/.208/.261 in 2018, then he played 65 games with a .156/.202/.205 batting line in 2019. He then mainly stayed in the minors, and he only got 16 at-bats combined with the big club in the next 5 seasons.
