Biographical Information[edit]

The grandson of Bob Bonifay, nephew of Cam Bonifay and Brannon Bonifay, and cousin of Josh Bonifay and Jonathan Bonifay, infielder Ken Bonifay was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 49th round of the 1991 amateur draft. He played seven seasons in their organization, reaching as high as the AA level in three years.

Bonifay split 1991 between the GCL Pirates (.344/.463/.406, 14 BB in 20 G) and Welland Pirates (.236/.291/.357 in 37 G). He had another split season in 1992, this time with the Augusta Pirates (12 for 47, 11 BB, 2 2B, 2 HR) and Salem Buccaneers (.201/.302/.244 in 71 G). Back with Salem in 1993, he improved significantly, from one home run to 18 with a batting line of .277/.354/.485.

Promoted to AA with the 1994 Carolina Mudcats, Ken regressed to .221/.305/.369 with 6 homers and fielded only .888 at the hot corner. He was demoted to Lynchburg in 1995 and recovered his stroke somewhat, at .245/.366/.395 with 63 walks. Returning to Carolina in 1996, he hit .243/.350/.390 for his best AA season, then fell to .176/.342/.309 in 22 games for the 1997 Mudcats to end his career.

Overall, the Georgia Tech alumnus had hit .243/.343/.386 with 259 walks in 571 minor league games.
