Biographical Information

Kelvin Pérez pitched as high as AAA and was on the Dominican national team.

He was signed by the New York Yankees and made his pro debut with the 2005 DSL Yankees 2 (1-3, 5.45, 28 BB in 36 1/3 IP). The next year, he was on the champion DSL Yankees 1, going 7-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 52 K in 51 IP. He tied for 8th in the Dominican Summer League in ERA. His control continued to improve - by 2007, he was very sharp (9 BB in 38 IP) for the GCL Yankees, posting a 5-3, 2.84 record. He tied for 9th in the Gulf Coast League in wins. He then had elbow surgery.

The right-hander split 2008 between the GCL Yankees (0-2, 4.08) and Tampa Yankees (1 R in 1 IP). In '09, he was with the GCL Yankees (2-0, 1 R in 6 IP) and Staten Island Yankees (3-2, 2.06). With the 2010 Charleston RiverDogs, he went 5-5 with a 3.18 ERA. He split 2011 between Charleston (0-4, 8 Sv, 4.66 in 39 G) and Tampa (Sv, 6.43 in 8 G). In 2012, he was with dazzling for the AA Trenton Thunder (6-1, 4 Sv, 1.14 in 41 G) and made it to AAA with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (1-2, 3.77 in 7 G). He pitched that winter for both the Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican (1-2, 3.52 in 19 G) and the Venados de Mazatlán in Mexico (1 shutout inning).

Things did not go as smoothly in 2013. He struggled with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (0-4, 9.00 ERA, 2.28 WHIP in 18 IP) and was okay with Trenton (0-1, 2.87 in 9 G). The Yankees let him go and he was signed by the Detroit Tigers. He was 1-1 with a 6.43 ERA for the Erie SeaWolves. He did fine in winter ball for the Gigantes (5 H, 1 R in 9 IP).

In 2014, he moved on to the Mexican League's Acereros de Monclova, going 0-2 with a 2.45 ERA in nine outings. He pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings for the 2014-2015 Estrellas Orientales. In '15, he was 1-1 with a 7.71 ERA in three starts for Monclova to end his decade in the minor leagues. He relieved Kelvin Jiménez with a 3-3 tie against Puerto Rico in the 4th. He worked two shutout innings as the Dominicans built a 6-3 lead but gave up three in the 6th and was removed. He started against Colombia and allowed one run in five (a solo homer by Harold Ramírez; Luis Liria got the save for Kelvin's win. Only Claudio Vargas worked more innings for the Dominicans in the event.
