Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Kelvin Marte began his profesional career in 2007. He was signed by the San Francisco Giants prior to the campaign.

With the DSL Giants that year, he was 5-1 with a 1.62 ERA in 28 relief appearances, striking out 91 batters and allowing only 36 hits in 61 innings. He had a 2.53 ERA in 42 2/3 innings the next year. In his first year as a full-time starter, 2011, he went 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA in 25 starts for the San Jose Giants to earn a spot on the California League Mid-Season All-Star team. He made the Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star squad after going 10-6 with a 2.63 ERA in 26 games (19 starts) for the Richmond Flying Squirrels in 2015.

He became a free agent after the 2015 season and signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates for 2016. He spent the season in AAA with the Indianapolis Indians, where he went 4-3, 3.67 in 34 games, including 4 starts, and notching 2 saves. He missed a couple of weeks in August with a sprained ankle. He was called up to Pittsburgh when rosters expanded and made his major league debut on September 3rd, pitching a third of an inning in relied against the Milwaukee Brewers, giving up a hit and a walk but also striking out a batter.
