Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Keith Helton played in the minor leagues from 1987 to 1992. He spent part or all of four years at Triple A, but never reached the majors. He was taken by the Seattle Mariners as the first pick in the 14th round of the 1987 amateur draft and was signed by scouts Benny Looper and Dave Karaff.

He began his career with a 1.31 ERA and 11.5 K/9 IP ratio in 55 innings for the Bellingham Mariners in 1987. 1989 was also of note, as he had a 2.14 ERA and 14 saves in 49 games between the Williamsport Bills (1.47 ERA) and Triple A Calgary Cannons (5.02 ERA). In 1993, he pitched in Italy for Novara, going 4-11 with a 4.18 ERA.

Overall, Helton went 33-25 with a 3.97 ERA in 266 games (19 starts) over six minor league seasons. At Triple A, he was 12-14 with a 6.16 ERA in 100 games (14 starts).
