Biographical information[edit]
Catcher Keiji Oyama has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Oyama played for Shidax in the industrial leagues after college. He was a 5th-round pick of the Nippon Ham Fighters in the 2005 NPB draft. In 2006, he had a 25% pay cut due to discipline issues. After 2007, he switched from being a switch-hitter to focus on hitting from the right side.
Oyama made the Fighters roster out of spring training in 2008. Backing up Shinji Takahashi and Shinya Tsuruoka, Keiji was 5 for 29 with a double and a walk in 27 games. Oyama got his first hit on May 4 against Masahiro Tanaka.
The Fighters released Oyama, making room for Shota Ono as a backup catcher. He signed with the Chunichi Dragons. In 2009, Keiji hit .156/.243/.238 in 137 plate appearances over 59 games as the backup to Motonobu Tanishige.
