Biographical Information[edit]

Karsten Whitson was a first-round pick by the San Diego Padres, going ninth overall in the 2010 amateur draft. He threw a fastball in the mid-90s as well as a breaking ball and changeup. Whitson decided not to sign with the Padres instead went to school at the University of Florida. After a strong freshmen year with the Gators, he fought through injuries in his sophomore season in 2012. He would miss the entire 2013 season with a shoulder injury. Despite that fact, the Washington Nationals drafted him in the 37th round of the 2013 Amateur Draft in hopes of luring him to the pros.

Whitson was drafted for a third time in the 2014 amateur draft, taken by the Boston Red Sox in the 11th round. He signed and made his pro debut with the Lowell Spinners that summer, going 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in 4 appearances. It was his only professional season.
