Biographical Information[edit]
Kanya Suzuki has been an infielder in the Japanese industrial leagues. He has represented Japan on the international stage several times. He first played for Japan in the 2005 Asian Championship. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, he hit .414/.419/.483 with 8 runs in 10 games as Japan's starting third baseman. He did not make the All-Tournament team as Yulieski Gourriel was chosen at the hot corner. Suzuki just missed the top 5 in the Cup in average.
Suzuki was with Japan for the 2006 Asian Games. In the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, he batted .288/.333/.288 while fielding perfectly at third base; he was one of the better hitters on a surprisingly weak Japanese offense. During the 2007 Baseball World Cup, the 33-year-old fielded flawlessly for Japan at second base. He hit .333/.438/.407. In the Bronze Medal game, he hit 9th but scored the winning run. With a 0-0 tie after 5, Suzuki singled off Leon Boyd and came home on a one-out double by Takashi Yoshiura; Japan went on to a 5-0 win.
