Biographical Information[edit]

Kanehisa Arime pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.

Arime represented Japan in the 2002 Asian Games. He pitched in four of six games, with a 2.45 ERA and 12 K in 10 2/3 IP. He got the win over Mingqiang Ye and China in the Bronze Medal Game. The Kintetsu Buffaloes drafted him in the third round of the 2001 NPB draft. Arime spent his rookie year in the NPB Farm Leagues, and recorded a terrible 7.83 ERA in 2003. He still struggled in 2004 as his ERA was 5.06. When the Rakuten Golden Eagles were founded in 2005, Arime was assigned here. The Okinawa native joined the rotation in 2005, but he had a 3-10 record with a 5.18 ERA. He improved slightly in 2006, as he lowered his ERA to 4.47 in 12 starts, then had a 4.17 ERA in 52 appearances in 2007. The Golden Eagles turned him into a reliever on April 10 in 2007.

Arime was a full-time reliever in 2008, and he had a career year. He had a solid 2.05 ERA in a Pacific League-leading 66 games, and notched 17 holds and 2 saves. He had a 2.36 ERA in the first half of the 2009 season, and attended the 2009 NPB All-Star Game. He only pitched 1/3 of an inning in Game 2, walked 2, allowed 3 hits and gave up 4 earned runs. Arime struggled in the rest of the season, and ended up collecting 20 holds with a 5.15 ERA in 54 appearances. He suffered an injury, and pitched 32 more games over the next three season. After only having one appearance in [[2012 in Japanese Baseball|2012], Arime announced his retirement.

Overall, Arime was 9-34, notched 57 holds and a 4.53 ERA and pitched 465 1/3 innings in 10 seasons in NPB.
