Justus Thorner

Biographical Information[edit]

Justus Thorner was the owner of three major league Cincinnati baseball clubs in the 1880s. He owned the Cincinnati Stars in 1880, the Cincinnati Reds in 1882 and 1883, and the Cincinnati Outlaw Reds in 1884. He led the Reds to become the champions of the American Association in its inaugural season of 1882. He is said to be the reason why Cincinnati was expelled from the National League for the entire 1881 season due to the team refusing to stop selling beer at their ballpark as well as playing on Sundays.
