Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Justin Slaten failed to retire a batter in his major league debut for the Boston Red Sox against the Seattle Mariners on March 30, 2024. Boston had taken a 3-1 lead in the game in the top of the 10th inning, but Joely Rodríguez was unable to hold it, allowing the Mariners to tie the score on a couple of hits and a fielder's choice. That's when Justin came into the game to face Julio Rodriguez, who singled to center to drive in Josh Rojas to end the game. Slaten redeemed himself the very next day, as he pitched 2 1/3 innings to finish a 5-1 Boston win. He had been taken by the New York Mets from the Texas Rangers in the 2023 Rule V Draft the previous December, then immediately traded to the Red Sox in what was a pre-arranged deal.
