Biogaphical Information[edit]
The brother of major leaguer Jack Cassel and NFL quarterback Matt Cassel, pitcher Justin Cassel was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 30th round of the 2003 amateur draft but did not sign. After college at UC Irvine, he was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the seventh round of the 2006 amateur draft. He had his greatest success in 2008 with the Birmingham Barons, going 10-4 with a 3.11 ERA in 28 starts.
He was a member of Team USA in the 2011 Baseball World Cup and the 2011 Pan American Games.
