Biographical Information[edit]
Jung-rak Shin pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization.
Shin represented South Korea in the 2009 Asian Championship. The LG Twins selected him in the first round of the 2010 KBO draft, and he had a 6.31 ERA in 24 appearances in his first year. He improved to a 1.02 ERA in 11 games in 2011, then he only got one appearance for the big club in 2012. Shin was 9-5 with a 4.26 ERA in 2013, then he recorded a 6.66 ERA in 15 games in 2014. On October 6, he threw 7 1/3 hitless innings with a walk against the NC Dinos, and the next two pitchers Won-sang Yoo and Jae-woong Shin also didn't allow a hit. The Twins won thanks to Jin-young Lee's walk-off single, and that was the first combined no-hitter in KBO history. In Game 2 of the playoff series, he pitched 7 innings with only a run allowed against the Nexen Heroes, and he got the win. The Heroes still eliminated the Twins in 4 games.
The Cheonan native then missed the next two seasons due to military service, and he notched 10 saves with a 5.34 ERA in 63 appearances in 2017 after returning. He struggled again as his ERA was 5.86 in 49 games in 2018, then the Twins traded him to the Hanwha Eagles for Eun-beom Song. Shin's ERA was 5.84 with 5 holds in 44 games in 2019, and he only got 16 appearances with a 9.00 ERA in 2020. He had a 8.55 ERA in 20 games in 2021, then he improved to a 4.02 ERA in 44 relief outings in 2022. Shin was released after the '22 season, and the Lotte Giants signed him. He was 4-0 with a 4.66 ERA in 2023, but he stayed in the minors for the entire 2024 season, and the Giants released him.
Overall, Shin was 27-26 with a 5.25 ERA, struck out 392 and pitched 480 1/3 innings in 11 seasons in the KBO.
