Julius Uelschen debuted in the Bundesliga in 2007, hitting .391/.491/.478 with 13 runs in 17 games for his hometown Paderborn Untouchables. In the 2007 European Junior Championship, he was 7 for 20 with a double, 3 walks and two steals. In 2008, the fleet-footed outfielder batted .340/.447/.387 and stole 17 bases in 19 tries. He tied for second in the league in runs (36) and was second to Octavio Medina in steal percentage. He was one steal behind the league's 3 co-leaders. He also had a perfect fielding percentage in center. Uelschen is on Germany's preliminary 40-man roster for the 2009 Baseball World Cup. He was chosen for the 2009 MLB European Academy.
