Biographical Information

Julien Tucker pitched as high as AA and won a Bronze Medal with Team Canada.

Tucker was signed by the Houston Astros as an undrafted free agent; he had played college baseball in his hometown of Montreal. He was 2-3 with a 3.95 ERA for the 1993 GCL Astros in his pro debut. With the '94 Auburn Astros, he was excellent at 8-3, 2.24. He was 3rd in the New York-Penn League in ERA behind Matt Drews and Igor Oropeza; Jason Jarvis was next. He tied Oropeza for 3rd in wins, one behind Jayson Durocher and Scott Cunningham, and he tied for the most complete games (3). He and Oropeza were named the league's All-Star right-handed pitchers.

Moving south to the Kissimmee Cobras, things turned south in 1995 as he fell to 2-11, 5.00. He tied Scott Forster, Andy Markham and Jason McCommon for 2nd in the Florida State League in losses, one behind Greg Granger, and he was 4th in the Astros chain in defeats. Back with the 1996 Cobras, he improved to 4-8, 4.27 with one save. After starting 1997 with the Cobras at 8-7, 5.22, he was dealt by Houston to the Chicago White Sox straight up for five-time All-Star Tony Peña, who was 40 years old and just shy of retirement. Tucker pitched four games for the Hickory Crawdads after the trade (7 R, 3 ER in 7 1/3 IP).

The tall right-hander was 4-6 with 3 saves and a 6.82 ERA for the 1998 Birmingham Barons, walking 47 in 66 innings. He improved with the same team in 1999 (2-1, 5 Sv, 5.33). He was on Team Canada when they won Bronze in the 1999 Pan American Games but was their only pitcher not used. Going to the independent Aberdeen Arsenal in 2000, he was 6-3 with 3 saves and a 3.51 ERA.

Julien split 2001 between the Detroit Tigers' Erie SeaWolves (1-5, 4.93 in 23 G) and the Cleveland Indians' Akron Aeros (0-1, 9.72 in 5 G). His hometown Montréal Expos became his 5th MLB organization in 2002 and he spent the summer with the Brevard County Manatees (1-5, Sv, 3.12 in 25 G), still battling control issues (29 BB in 43 1/3 IP). He pitched briefly for the 2003 Les Capitales de Québec (3 Sv, 0.73 in 10 G) and also spent time with the Trois-Rivières Saints (0-1, 2.19). He was with Team Canada again for the 2003 Baseball World Cup but once again did not get into a game for Canada.

Tucker was 7-5 with a save and a 3.86 ERA for the 2005 Capitales after not appearing for them in 2004. In '06, he fell to 1-5, 5.87 for the club to end his career in pro ball. He played in the Ligue de Baseball Majeur du Québec from 2007-2011, going 21-9 with a save and a 2.49 ERA.
