Juan Valdez was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts for Guatemala in the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games; he also allowed one run in one inning. He was much better in the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup, going 5 for 10 with three walks. The left fielder was second in average behind César Quintero and led in OBP. He was with Guatemala for the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games.
Valdez went 3 for 19 with a walk, run and RBI in the 2013 Bolivarian Games and made 3 errors in 13 chances as a 3B/LF. He started at second for Guatemala in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games and played error-free defense, but was only 1 for 15 with 7 strikeouts offensively. A bench player for Guatemala as they claimed the Bronze Medal in the 2017 Central American Games, he was 1 for 3 with a double, run and two RBI; he also pitched two games (3 2/3 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 R, 5 K).
His brother Guillermo Valdez has been his teammate on the Guatemalan national team.
