Biographical Information[edit]

Javier Samboy pitched in the minors leagues, the CPBL and Serie A1 as well as for the Dominican national team.

Samboy was 5-3 with a 2.98 ERA for the GCL Mets in 1995 (tied for 9th in the Gulf Coast League in wins), and he went 1-1 with a 4.33 ERA for the Lethbridge Black Diamonds in 1996. The Chinatrust Whales signed him in 1998, and his ERA was 4.26 in 7 games. Samboy was the top hurler for the Dominicans at the 1998 Baseball World Cup, going 1-0 with a save and a 1.04 ERA in 7 relief outings. He allowed only 4 hits in 29 at-bats and struck out 11 in 8 2/3 IP; he also walked four. He tied Byung-hyun Kim for the event lead in games pitched. He remained with the Dominican team for the 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games. It is possible the Juan Samboy is a different Juan Samboy than Juan Javier Samboy, but they are both Dominican pitchers born on the same day with the same first name so it is probable they are the same.

He was 10-5 with a 3.21 ERA and 134 K for Firenze in the 2002 Serie A1, tying for 4th in wins and finishing 6th in strikeouts (between Jose Guerrero and Ayahito Shinada). He fell to 0-3, 7.16 for them in 2003, and the First Financial Holdings Agan signed him. However, Samboy allowed 9 runs in 4 2/3 innings in 2003 CPBL, and his professional career ended.
