Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Juan De Paula was signed by the Seattle Mariners on July 2, 2014. He made his pro debut in 2015 with the DSL Mariners 2, going 5-4. 2.32 in 14 starts. In 2016, he was with the AZL Mariners where he went 1-2, 3.07 in 11 games. On August 31st that year, he was traded to the New York Yankees alongside Jio Orozco in return for OF Ben Gamel. In 2017, he was with the Staten Island Yankees and was 5-5, 2.90 in 12 games. On July 27th, he was one of four Staten Island pitchers who combined to pitch a 9-inning no-hitter over the Tri-City ValleyCats. He started 2018 back with the same team and was 2-2, 2.09 in 10 games when on August 31st, he was part of a second major trade, going to the San Francisco Giants with Abiatal Avelino in return for OF Andrew McCutchen. He made 1 start for the Augusta GreenJackets of the South Atlantic League after the trade, giving up 1 run in 5 innings.

On April 2, 2019, before he had made his first appearance of the season, he was involved in his third major league trade in three years when he was sent to the Toronto Blue Jays alongside IF Alen Hanson and P Derek Law in return for OF Kevin Pillar. He was clearly the main piece in the trade for the Jays, as both Hanson and Law had worn out their welcome in San Francisco and were unlikely to be more than side pieces in Toronto.
