Biographical Information

Pitcher Josh Ravin was selected out of high school by the Cincinnati Reds in the 5th round of the 2006 amateur draft (Rex de la Nuez was the scout), but it took him until 2015 to reach the majors, by which time he was toiling for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He pitched in the Reds' organization from 2006 until the end of the 2013 season, reaching AAA for 10 games with the Louisville Bats at the end of his final season. Even though he was a starting pitcher for much of that time span, he never won in double figures, in fact never recording more than 5 wins in a single season. He also put up some rather high ERAs, including 8.55 for the Billings Mustangs in 2007, 7.77 for two teams in 2008, 5.17 (along with a 2-10 record) in 2011, 5.33 in 2012 and 5.82 in 2013. He was converted to a reliever in 2012 and in 2014 moved to the Dodgers organization. In his first season there, he was 2-1, 3.65 with 5 saves for the AA Chattanooga Lookouts and AAA Albuquerque Isotopes. He started 2015 with the team's new AAA affiliate, the Oklahoma City Dodgers and got the call to the Show as the 26th player eligible to take part in a doubleheader.

In his major league debut on June 2, 2015, he struck out the only batter he faced, D.J. LeMahieu to end the 8th inning of the second game of the doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers were down, 8-5, at that point, but a grand slam by Alex Guerrero in the top of the 9th made him a 9-8 winner. In 9 games, he went 2-1, 6.75. In Oklahoma City, he went 3-1, 3.86 in 22 games, with 3 saves. During spring training in 2016, he suffered a broken forearm during a car accident, and he was still on the disabled list on May 2nd when he was suspended for 80 games for testing positive for human growth hormone. Owning up to his mistake, he said that he had taken nutritional supplements in spring training in trying to regain weight about a severe bout of intestinal flu and that the banned substance was included among these.
