Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Josh Pennington was a 29th-round choice in the 2014 amateur draft by the Boston Red Sox; the scout was Ray Fagnant. He only started his professional career the following year, 2015, with the GCL Red Sox, going 2-1, 0.82 in 7 games. In 2016, he moved up to the Lowell Spinners of the New York-Penn League, where he 5-3, 2.86 in 13 games, all starts. On December 6th of the year, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers along with Travis Shaw and Mauricio Dubon in return for P Tyler Thornburg.
Things did not go well for Josh in the Brewers' organization, however. In 2017, he made just 10 starts, going 1-3, 2.78 following elbow surgery in 2016. In 2018, after just two outings for the Class A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the elbow problems return. Facing a second Tommy John surgery after already undergoing the procedure in high school, he decided to retire instead.
