Biographica information[edit]
Jose Zapata was a minor league player in the Montréal Expos chain from 1991-1993 but never made it stateside. From 1994-2000, he was hitting coach for the DSL Expos. He next moved on to coach for the Jamestown Jammers and DSL Marlins.
In 2003, he became a manager with the DSL Marlins. After a 18-48 season in 2003, he improved to 29-36 in 2004 and 27-31 in 2005. His club went 28-42 in 2006. He was then hired as manager of the DSL Red Sox as well as Boston's Latin Field Coordinator. His teams were 38-31 in 2007, 43-27 in 2008 and 44-25 in 2009.
