Biographical Information[edit]
Jose Salcedo pitched in the minor leagues and the Taiwan Major League.
Salcedo began his professional career with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, and he went 5-2 with a 4.33 ERA for the GCL Dodgers in 1991, issuing only 8 walks in 52 innings. He tied for fifth in the Gulf Coast League in wins. He had a 4.00 ERA in 12 games for the Bakersfield Dodgers in 1992, and he also went 2-4 with a 3.78 ERA for the Yakima Bears. Salcedo then recorded a 3.65 ERA in 8 appearances for the Vero Beach Dodgers in 1993, but he struggled in Bakersfield as his ERA was 7.27 in 16 games. The Milwaukee Brewers selected him in the 1993 Rule V Draft, but his ERA was 5.42 in 41 relief outings for the Stockton Ports, then the Brewers released him.
After leaving Milwaukee, Salcedo signed with the Tri-City Posse, and he was 6-9 with a 3.81 ERA in 1995. He tied for second in the Western League in losses but was 8th in strikeouts. He improved to 7-3 with a 2.11 ERA in 1996, and he won the Western Baseball League ERA title by .45 ahead of Tim Burcham. Salcedo then had a 3-9 record with a 4.75 ERA in 1997 (tying for third in losses), and his ERA rose to 5.03 with a 11-3 record for the Chico Heat in 1998. He was one win shy of leader Collin Kerley. The Kaoping Fala signed him in 1999, and Salcedo's ERA was 4.08 in 12 appearances for them. He was 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA in Tri-City after leaving Taiwan, and he went 5-7 with a 3.71 ERA in 2000. He tied Greg Bicknell for 7th in the WL in ERA. Salcedo was 3-3 with a 2.93 ERA for the Yuma Bullfrogs in 2001, but he slumped to 7-7 with a 6.07 ERA for the Solano Steelheads in 2002 (the WL veteran finishing 9th in wins and tying Reggie Leslie for 4th in losses) then he retired.
Outside of his TML stint, he was 55-53 with 3 saves and a 4.21 ERA in 234 games as a pro (135 starts), throwing three shutouts.
