Biographical Information[edit]
Jose Gonzales played in the Boston Red Sox minor league system for a number of years beginning in 1997 in the Dominican Summer League. He played in the U.S. from 2000-2002 reaching low-A ball in his final season.
Following his playing career, Gonzalez began a lengthy run as a pitching coach in the Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays organizations.

Gonzalez was scheduled to be the GCL Rays pitching coach in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down the minor league season. In 2021, "Gonzo" flip-flopped roles with Alberto Bastardo in a move planned before the season began.
Gonzalez also worked as a pitching coach for the Perth Heat of the Australian Baseball League in the winter of 2019/2020.
