Biographical Information[edit]
Alberto Bastardo pitched in the minors from 2002-2011 (reaching AAA in three seasons), the Venezuelan Winter League from 2006-2013 and the Italian Baseball League in 2013. He was taken in the AAA phase of the 2005 Rule V Draft and led the Venezuelan League in ERA in 2009-2010 (4-0, 2.77). He spent the vast majority of his career as a starting pitcher.
He was pitching coach for the DSL Rays 2 in 2017, the GCL Rays in 2018-2019, and was scheduled to coach the the Princeton Rays in 2020 before the season was canceled due to COVID-19. He spent the winter of 2018/2019 coaching the Perth Heat in the Australian Baseball League. In 2021 Bastardo started the season as the bullpen coach for the Durham Bulls and then switched to the FCL Rays as their pitching coach once the short season leagues began play. He moved up two levels in 2022 as the pitching coach for the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Bastardo received another promotion in 2023 when the Rays named him their minor league pitching coordinator.
