Biographical information[edit]

Catcher Jose Gil played professionally from 2005 to 2017. He was signed as an amateur free agent by the New York Yankees and reached Triple-A for the first time in 2011.

He played in the Yankees' system until 2012, joining the Baltimore Orioles organization to start 2013. After being released by Baltimore partway through the year, he returned to the Yankees system to finish out 2013 (also spending time in independent ball that year) and remained there in 2014. He briefly played for the Los Angeles Angels Triple-A club in 2015, but spent most of the year in indy ball, returning to those ranks in 2016 and 2017 to wrap up his career. Though never a high-average hitter in affiliated ball, he hit his stride with the independent Bridgeport Bluefish, slashing .304/.408/.451 in 191 at-bats in 2016 and .305/.360/.394 in 269 at-bats in 2017. He also found his batting stroke in the Venezuelan Winter League, where he spent many seasons, hitting as high as .338 there.

Despite playing professionally for 13 seasons, Gil spent just 28 games at Triple-A. He was never a high-power hitter, though he hit 12 home runs between two clubs in 2007 and 10 homers between two teams in 2010.
