José Carradero

José Manuel Carradero Muriel (Chemane)

Biographical Information

José Carradero played for sixteen years in Puerto Rico's amateur leagues, with Ponce, Humacao, Rio Pedras and Yabucoa. He was on the Puerto Rican national team in the 1970 Amateur World Series. He would win a record seven titles as a manager in the amateur league, with Yabucoa (1980), Juncos (1983, 1985), Yabucoa (1994-1996) and Cidra (1998). He managed the Puerto Rican national team in the 1986 Amateur World Series, 1987 Pan American Games (Bronze Medal), 1988 Baseball World Cup, 1988 Olympics (third place, but baseball was not a medal event), 1990 Central American and Caribbean Games (Silver Medal), 1990 Baseball World Cup, 1991 Pan American Games (Silver Medal), 1992 Olympics, 1993 Central American and Caribbean Games (Bronze), 1994 Baseball World Cup and 1995 Pan American Games (Bronze) and 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games (Gold). He was thus one of the most successful managers in Puerto Rican national team annals. He also coached for Puerto Rico in the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games.

When he and his brother Ivan Carradero were inducted into the Puerto Rican Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991, they were the first pair of brothers so honored.
