Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Jose Suarez, a native of Venezuela, was signed by the Los Angeles Angels on July 3, 2014. He made his professional debut the following year, with the DSL Angels and was promoted to the AZL Angels before the end of that first summer. He had a first good year in 2017, when he combined to go 6-1, 3.28 between the Burlington Bees of the Midwest League and the Arizona League. He then rose quickly after that, reaching AAA by the end of 2018 when he pitched for three different teams at three different levels, culminating with the Salt Lake Bees of the Pacific Coast League. His record was 3-6, 3.92 in 26 starts, but his pitching regularly in the PCL at age 20 was remarkable. he was named as having the best change-up in the Angels system.

Suarez returned to Salt Lake at the start of the 2019 season. He was 2-0, 3.91 after 4 games when he received the call to Los Angeles to make a start on June 2nd. Facing the Seattle Mariners, he gave up 3 runs on 5 hits in 5 2/3 innings and received credit for a 13-3 win.
