José Sosa (El Salvador)
José Sosa was the first shortstop and cleanup hitter for the Salvadoran national team. In their opening game at the 1930 Central American Games, he went 1 for 4 and had 10 chances in the field (3 PO, 6 A, 1 E). He moved to pitcher later in the game, striking out three and walking two. He was one of only three Salvadorans to get hits in a 25-0 loss to Panama. Their second game, he went 2 for 5 against Guatemala, had two putouts, two assists and one error and again pitched, striking out 12 in what would end a 7-7 tie. San Salvador's only catcher was injured that game so the team then dropped out. He tied Miguel Bulnes for 2nd on the team in average, behind Saturnino Bengoa. He led the event's pitchers in fielding (2 PO, 5 A, 0 E) but was last at short (3 PO, 3 A, 2 E). His 5.40 ERA also led the team; Raúl Paz was next at 9.00. He was 3rd in the event in batters fanned despite his team's short tournament, behind only Guatemala's F. Echeverría and future Mexican Hall-of-Famer Fernando Barradas.
