José Núñez has pitched for the Honduran national team.

In the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games Central American Qualifier, he had a 4.91 ERA in two appearances for second-place Honduras; he gave up one hit in 3 2/3 IP and struck out 7, but walked 6. Only Pablo Barquero and David García issued more walks in the tourney and he also tied Alejandro Amézquita for 8th in strikeouts. During the 2023 Pan American Games Qualifier, he pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings; this time, he yielded five hits but walked none, striking out one, for very different numbers.
