Mena was signed by New York Mets scout Daurys Nin in 2016. [1] He hit .205/.247/.219 between the DSL Mets 1 and DSL Mets 2 that summer, fielding .994 at catcher. In 2017, he was with the same two clubs, eking out a .211/.348/.284 line but gunning down an amazing 64% of would-be base-thieves. The next year, he came stateside with the GCL Mets (.295/.353/.346 in 23 G) and Columbia Fireflies (0 for 6, 3 K).

In 2019, he hit .299/.352/.433 for the Brooklyn Cyclones, continuing to improve on offense, and fielded .997. He was on the Dominican team for the 2019 Premier 12, backing up Charlie Valerio. He did not get into a game for them. [2]
