Biographical Information[edit]
Jorge Puerta has played in the minors and won Gold with the Colombian national team.
He made his pro debut with the 2021 DSL Dodgers Shoemaker, hitting .299/.441/.495 with 33 runs in 39 games. That winter, he batted .237/.326/.342 for the Gigantes de Barranquilla. In '22, he was with the DSL Dodgers Mega (.431/.547/.824, 21 RBI in 15 G), ACL Dodgers (.247/.385/.384 in 24 G) and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (0 for 4). As a LF/DH for Colombia in the 2022 U-23 Baseball World Cup, he produced at a .217/.308/.391 clip. [1] He hit .321/.413/.509 in winter ball for the Vaqueros de Montería.
In 2023, he appeared in 82 games for Rancho Cucamonga (hitting .256/.363/.335) and 2 for the Great Lakes Loons (0 for 1, 2 BB). He bounced between the corner outfield spots, catcher and first base. He represented Colombia again in the 2023 Pan American Games. He struck out against Brazil's Daniel Missaki his first time up then singled off Murilo Gouvêa to drive Derwin Pomare. He hit .182/.250/.364 and fielded .938, with one game split between 1B and C and three games at DH. Colombia won their first Pan American Games Gold Medal; did not appear in the title game. [2]
