He retired major leaguers Jolbert Cabrera and Luis Martinez to end the win for Brazil. Brazil wound up advancing to the 2013 World Baseball Classic. He remained with Brazil for the Classic.
He signed with the Seattle Mariners shortly after that first appearance for Brazil (the scouts were Tim Kissner and Ted Heid), spending 2013 with the AZL Mariners, where he went 0-1, 6.23 in 7 games. He moved up to the Clinton LumberKings in 2015, but made only 6 starts, with a record of 1-2, 3.41 then had Tommy John surgery. On December 9, 2015, he was one of three prospects traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in return for 1B Adam Lind (along with Carlos Herrera and Freddy Peralta).
