Biographical Information

Pitcher Jordan Sheffield was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in Competitive Balance Round A of the 2016 amateur draft, with the #36 pick overall, out of Vanderbilt University. He was the Dodgers' third selection, following SS Gavin Lux at #20 and C Will Smith at #32. The pick was compensation for the Dodgers' failure to sign Kyle Funkhouser in the 2015 amateur draft. Three years earlier, in 2013, Sheffield had been a 13th-round selection by the Boston Red Sox coming out of high school, but had decided to go to college instead of signing. He was signed by scout Marty Lamb.

He began his pro career pitching for the AZL Dodgers and the Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League in 2016, combining to go 0-1, 3.75 in 8 starts but just 12 innings. In 2017, he began the season with Great Lakes then earned a late-season look with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League. That year, he was 3-9, 4.70 in 25 games (24 starts) and 107 1/3 innings. He struck out 109 batters but walked 57. He was then set back by an injury in 2018, limiting to 17 games, including 3 on a rehabilitation assignment in the Arizona League. With Rancho Cucamonga, he went 1-3, 6.88 in 14 games and 34 innings. he gave up 39 hits and 20 walks during that time, but struck out 40 batters. After the season, he pitched in the Arizona Fall League and put up his best numbers thus far, with an ERA of 1.93 in 10 games, all in relief.

He was picked by the Colorado Rockies in the 2020 Rule V Draft and made the team's opening day roster in 2021.

He is the brother of Justus Sheffield, who made his major league debut in 2018. A cousin, Tony Sheffield, played professionally from 1992-1996.
