Biographical Information[edit]
The son of Orel Hershiser, pitcher Jordan Hershiser turned pro in 2012.
Amateur Career[edit]
Hershiser hit .387 with 5 home runs as a high school senior and had a 6-2, 2.24 record on the mound with 70 K in 50 IP. He was All-Conference; he also made All-Conference in basketball. As a college freshman in 2008, he was 1-0 despite a 8.22 ERA and a WHIP near 2. He had Tommy John surgery and was redshirted for 2009. In summer ball, he had a 2.57 ERA in the New England Collegiate Baseball League and a 1-3, 5.57 record in the Northwoods League. He allowed five runs (four earned) in three innings in 2010, going 0-1 and missing most of the year with injury. He allowed one run in two innings in 2011, as the tall righty was again plagued by injury. The trend continued in 2012, when he lasted 5 1/3 innings, giving up one earned run and fanning eight.
Minor Leagues[edit]
He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 34th round of the 2012 amateur draft. He made his pro debut with the AZL Dodgers on June 23rd. Tossing the final inning of a 10-7 win over the AZL Reds, Hershiser allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits in one inning, striking out one.
