Biographical Information[edit]

Collegiate[edit]

Jordan Backes, a Mount Zion, IL native, transferred from Quincy University to Mercyhurst College. While at Mercyhurst, Backes led the team with a 6-3 record, 2.67 ERA, and 69 strikeouts in 63.2 innings. He threw a two-hit complete-game shutout on March 19, 2010, which earned him PSAC West Pitcher of the Week.

Jordan's 69 strikes are tied for 9th-best, single-season total in Mercyhurst history. He struck out 7 or more batters in 7 out of his 11 starts. This included back-to-back 8 strikeout games to close the regular season.

Normal CornBelters (Frontier League)[edit]

Backes was signed by the Normal CornBelters on August 4, 2010.

Jordan debuted for the CornBelters against the Evansville Otters on August 5. He pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up only 2 hits and 1 earned run, struck out 3 and walked 4.

Backes finished the 2010 season with no record and no saves in 4 appearances. He had a 9.00 ERA in 8 innings pitched while striking out 6 and walking 8.
