Biographical Information

Johnny Mokan played seven years in the majors and six in the minors. In his best major league season, 1925, he hit .330 and slugged .488 for the 1925 Philadelphia Phillies. He also hit over .300 in 1923 and 1926 in the majors.

He was in the minors from 1917-21 before he came to the majors. For part of 1918 he was with the 1918 Toronto Maple Leafs, a team which went 88-39. For the rest of 1918 and in 1919-20 he was in the Texas League, where he hit over .300 twice, and references sometmes refer to him as a former Texas League star. After his major league days he played one more season in the minors, hitting .316.

Baseball: The People's Game, Volume 3 mentions that Mokan, many years later in 1934, played in a city/suburban league in the Detroit area called the Baseball Federation.

He was born, and died, in Buffalo, NY.
