Biographical Information[edit]
Johnny Fretheim has pitched for the British national team.
In the 2016 European Junior Championship, he was one of Britain's top hitters and top pitchers. He hit .316/.409/.421 with 7 RBI in 5 games, going 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA. He beat Anton Kuznetsov of Russia, leading Britain in IP, ERA and RBI while finishing second to Richard Brereton in OPS. He tied for 3rd in the event in RBI and was 3rd in ERA, behind Lorian Andro and Antoine Villard. [1] In the 2017 European Championship U23, he was 1 for 13 with 4 walks, 3 runs and a RBI while going 1-0 with 4 unearned runs in 4 2/3 IP. [2] He was 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in the 2019 European Championship U23, again going 1 for 13. He beat Croatia. [3] He allowed 8 runs in 1 1/3 IP and was 0 for 7 in the 2021 European Championship U23. [4]
He pitched once for Britain in the 2021 European Championship, relieving Spencer Kreisberg in the 6th with a 6-2 deficit, one on and one out against Israel. He allowed a two-run homer to Assaf Lowengart but recovered to retire Itai Goldner and Joey Wagman. After Britain scored a run in the top of the 6th, Liam Sabiston relieved him. [5]
