Johnny DiPuglia
Johnny DiPuglia has been a scout.
DiPuglia was raised in Miami and has Dominican ancestry. He was an area scout for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1990-1997, then was assistant international director of the San Francisco Giants in 1998. From 1999-2005, he was a Florida scout for the Boston Red Sox, then served the team as Latin American crosschecker from 2005-2009. He signed Hanley Ramírez, Rick Ankiel, Plácido Polanco, Aníbal Sánchez, Félix Díaz and Eli Marrero. The Washington Nationals then hired him as director of international operations to help clean up an organization ridden by the Esmailyn Gonzalez scandal. He said that he would miss working with Craig Shipley and Theo Epstein of Boston, but that he wanted to try "to develop something from ground zero." He signed Osvaldo Abreu and Rodney Theophile for Washington.
