Biographical Information[edit]

John Roper began 1994 with a 5-0 record through his first 9 starts with the Cincinnati Reds, but struggled the rest of the way, going 1-2 with a 5.86 ERA in his final 7 appearances (6 starts).

On August 21, 1993, he had a nightmarish start against the Montreal Expos. He began the 1st inning by walking Marquis Grissom, then threw a wild pitch before walking Randy Ready. He then loaded the bases by walking John Vander Wal as well, and the fourth batter of the game, Larry Walker, followed with a grand slam. After settling down a bit, he gave up a solo homer to Grissom in the 2nd and ended up losing the game, 6-3.
