John Riddle played 11 games for the 1889 Washington Nationals and 27 for the 1890 Philadelphia Athletics. His most common position was catcher, although he was also in the outfield quite a bit. Another catcher on the Nationals' team was Connie Mack, who was a year older than Riddle. With the Athletics, the regular catcher was Wilbert Robinson.
John had previously played with a top amateur team called Mundell's Solar Tips [1].
He is not to be confused with a later player named Johnny Riddle.
