Biographical Information[edit]
John Richter, who was born and died in Louisville, KY, played three games at third base for the 1898 Louisville Colonels. Honus Wagner played quite a bit that year at both first and third, and rookie Tommy Leach also played 3 games at third that year.
The SABR biography of Tom Thomas refers to a news report about Richter and Rube Waddell being traded by Louisville to the minor league Detroit Tigers in 1897 tor Thomas. Thomas never actually played for Louisville, but Richter and Waddell did play for Detroit. However, Richter also played for Louisville in 1898.
