Biographical Information

John Odom pitched in the minors for several seasons but was best remembered as the player who was traded for ten bats.

Selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 44th round of the 2003 amateur draft, Odom made his pro debut with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes the following year. He went 6-3 with a 3.05 ERA in 15 starts for the Volcanoes in 2006, tying for 6th in the Northwest League in wins and finishing 7th in ERA, but missed the entire following season due to injuries.

After being released by the Giants, Odom was signed by the Calgary Vipers of the Golden Baseball League in 2008. However, due to a previous conviction for aggravated assault, he was unable to enter Canada, and on May 20th, he was traded to the Laredo Broncos for ten bats. He only made 3 starts for Laredo before leaving the team.

Odom died from an accidental drug overdose less than six months after the trade.
