Biographical Information[edit]

John Morlan earned his teaching certificate after graduating from college, and reported late to the minors each of his first four seasons because he was an elementary school teacher and had to wait for the end of the school year.

He started his career as an outfielder, but reached the majors as a pitcher. He had surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow after the 1974 season and never pitched in the majors after that.

His father John M. Morlan was a minor league catcher, and his uncle Joe Morlan was a minor league catcher and a scout for the Cleveland Indians.
