Biographical Information[edit]
John McGraw pitched one game in the major leagues for the 1914 Brooklyn Tip-Tops, giving up no hits and no runs. He played at a time when the other John McGraw was a manager, also in the New York area.
This McGraw is (through 2008) the only major league pitcher out of Carnegie Institute of Technology.
His real name was Hoar, changed to Heir, but he played professionally under the name "John McGraw", after his hero, so as not to lose his amateur status while in college.
