Biographical Information[edit]

John Hnatio played in the minor leagues as an outfielder from 1936 to 1941. He played in the Detroit Tigers, Brooklyn Dodgers, Washington Senators, and St. Louis Cardinals systems. He debuted with the Charleroi Tigers, hitting .257/?/.425 in '36. After not playing in 1937, he split 1938 between the Salisbury Indians (14 for 46, 2 2B), Cooleemee Weavers (.301/?/.462 in 45 G) and St. Augustine Saints (6 for 41, 2B, 2 3B). In 1939, he hit .311/?/.469 with 10 triples for Cooleemee, tying for the North Carolina State League lead in three-baggers.

Hnatio spent 1940 with the Cooleemee Cards, Mooresville Moors (.245/?/.343 in 66 G combined) and Mount Airy Graniteers (.276/?/.405 in 33 G). In '41, he wrapped up his career with the Bluefield Blue-Grays (12 for 50, HR) and Lancaster Red Roses (.247/?/.312 in 34 G). Overall, he had batted .274 in 349 minor league games.
