Biographical Information[edit]

John Dyler played one major league game in 1882. The SABR biography of Pete Browning says that Dyler was a pallbearer at Browning's funeral, having been Browning's first manager, presumably in amateur ball or semipro in Louisville, KY.

Dyler was an American Association umpire from 1883 to 1885. He also worked a couple of National League games in later years. In 1886 it was reported that he and Tony Mullane were planning to open a saloon together.

In later years Dyler moved to Florida and farmed an orange grove. Source: SABR Biographical Research Committee September / October 2003 Report.

He was sometimes called Johnny.
