"Cuff is playing a great game behind the bat for the Jersey. He and Hughes make a battery that is not easy to beat." - Sporting Life, August 20, 1884, about Cuff's work for the Jersey City team, possibly with Mickey Hughes
John Cuff played three games at catcher for the 1884 Baltimore Monumentals. Since the Union Association folded prior to the 1885 season, John played in the minors after this.
"At Baltimore Sept. 13 the home club tried Beck in the box and thereby lost the game. His pitching was so wild that it was impossible for Cuff to catch him . . ." - Sporting Life, September 24, 1884
