Biographical Information[edit]

John Crane has been a minor league pitcher and a college coach.

Crane was taken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 42nd round of the 1996 amateur draft out of Rider University. He was 1-0 in 21 relief outings that year for the Batavia Clippers, allowing 38 hits and 17 walks in 35 innings while striking out 31. He posted a 3.86 ERA, slightly below the team average. Crane was an assistant coach at Wagner College (1999) and Monmouth University (2000) then was head coach of the Stevens Institute of Technology from 2001-2011, winning a program-record 199 games. He took the school to its first NCAA tournament in 2002 and was named Knickerbocker Conference, Skyline Conference and New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Coach of the Year. In 2006, Stevens was 27-12 to set a school record for wins while making its first-ever appearance in both the national and regional rankings, and Crane was honored as the Skyline Conference and New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Coach of the Year.
