Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher John Cornely was taken by the Atlanta Braves in the 15th round of the 2011 amateur draft. With the Danville Braves in 2011, he went 3-1 with a 2.18 ERA in 15 appearances, striking out 50 batters in 33 innings while allowing only 19 hits. In 2012, he had a 3.07 mark, 8 saves and 94 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings between the Rome Braves and Lynchburg Hillcats. With Lynchburg in 2013, he went 4-1 with 11 saves, a 3.38 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings. He began 2014 with the Double A Mississippi Braves. He had a rough appearance with the Braves against the Washington Nationals on April 29, 2015. His team was already losing, 9-4, when he relieved Michael Kohn to start the 9th inning. After retiring Ryan Zimmerman, he gave up a walk and a pair of singles for a first run, then after a second out, Denard Span hit a three-run homer to make the final score 13-4. He was sent back to the minors following that appearance, and on May 20th, his contract was sold to the Boston Red Sox who optioned him to the Pawtucket Red Sox. He did not appear in the big leagues again.
